Texas, Florida, and Southern Miss Climb While Coastal Carolina and Arkansas Fall on Weekly Top 25

A third weekend of college baseball is in the books and we finally have some shuffling at the top of the rankings for the first time in 2026. Prior to the most recent update, the top six teams remained the same through the first two weekly updates. That has changed this week. Here is the new top 25:

To no surprise, UCLA remains on top after sweeping the Amegy Bank Series at Globe Life Field over the weekend, which included blowouts over #14 Tennessee and newly ranked #24 Texas A&M. The finale of the series featured a heavyweight bout between the Bruins and the Bulldogs of the #3 ranked Mississippi State. Had it not been for the theatrics of Roch Cholowsky in the ninth inning, Mississippi State would have handed UCLA their first ranked loss. However, UCLA walks away with a clean sweep over three SEC teams.

Speaking of the SEC, the conference is now represented by three teams within the top four, opposed to just two in each of the last two weeks as Texas climbed to #2 from #5 after sweeping the Bruce Bolt College Classic at Daikin Park in Houston. One of only two remaining undefeated Division-1 teams, Texas took down #25 Coastal Carolina, Baylor, and Ohio State, all in pretty convincing fashion, and added a solid mid-week win over a strong mid-major, via a 14-0 blowout over UT Rio Grande Valley. Mississippi State jumped up one spot to third overall after a strong showing at Globe Life despite coming up just short to UCLA.

Although they both handled business in their weekend series, both LSU and Georgia Tech lost their mid-weeks which was enough to drop each of them two spots to give way to Texas and Mississippi State. Early season mid-weeks don’t hold a lot of weight with me, but considering the strong wins between Texas and Mississippi State, there was no choice but to drop LSU and Georgia Tech.

The Florida Gators were the other notable risers within the top ten after winning two against #23 Miami on the road. Their series finale was cancelled due to weather, but had that game been played and Florida won, there would certainly be a case for them to crack the top five.

#9 North Carolina and #10 Clemson are the newcomers within the top ten. North Carolina was dominant all week, going 5-0 and winning each game by at least eight runs. Clemson went 3-1, dropping their first game of the season to South Carolina, but going on to defeat them in the final two games of the series. #12 Oklahoma and #13 Arkansas are the former top ten teams that gave way to North Carolina and Arkansas. Aside from Coastal Carolina dropping from #14 to #25, Arkansas was the biggest faller, going from #6 to #13 large in part due to a mid-week blowout loss at the hands of Arkansas State and then a loss to UT Arlington on Friday night. Oklahoma’s blowout loss to Arizona State on Tuesday was enough to pull them out of the top ten and then a 7-1 loss to Gonzaga on Sunday sealed their fate.

#11 Southern Miss was this week’s biggest riser, climbing eight spots from #19 and claiming their rightful place as the highest ranked mid-major. Their sweep of Louisiana Tech on the road in convincing fashion was huge while their blowout win over Alabama in their mid-week was the cherry on top. Add on the fact I was probably too low on them in my preseason ranking, they were given an extra bump to help make up for that misread.

#22 UTSA and #24 Texas A&M are the newcomers in this week's update after strong showings at the premier college baseball series showdowns. Following a loss to Texas State in their mid-week, their first and only loss of the season thus far, UTSA had a clean sweep over #25 Coastal Carolina, Ohio State, and Baylor at the Bruce Bolt Classic. Aside from getting steam-rolled by UCLA in their first and only loss of the season, Texas A&M managed to win in convincing fashion over Virginia Tech and Arizona State. UTSA and Texas A&M take the place of formerly ranked #23 Vanderbilt and #24 Ole Miss. Vanderbilt won their mid-week over Evansville, but were swept in Las Vegas at the Live Like Lou College Baseball Classic, suffering losses to UC Irvine, Arizona, and #18 Oregon. Ole Miss went 1-2 at the Bruce Bolt Classic, dropping games to Baylor and #25 Coastal Carolina, which was enough to drop the Rebels who came into the week as a bubble team.

#25 Coastal Carolina suffered the biggest fall in this week’s update after dropping games to #2 Texas and #22 UTSA. Losing to two ranked teams wouldn’t have hurt them as much as it did in this update, but they lost the two games by a combined score of 24-11. The absence of Cam Flukey and Hayden Johnson in the weekend rotation raised quite the red flags as the Chanticleers have been left very vulnerable. Their 9-2 win over Ole Miss to close out the weekend and the hope that their arms can return healthy at some point for a postseason run were the only things that kept them ranked. They have a huge week up ahead that will likely make or break their outlook for a while as they take on #16 NC State in their mid-week before taking on a strong East Carolina team at home over the weekend. As if that isn’t enough, they’ll host #20 Wake Forest in next week’s mid-week.
